John Ronald loved horses and dragons and words, even invented words. But war changed John Ronald. After serving during World War I, while teaching at Oxford University, John Ronald began to imagine again. His story about Bilbo Baggins became The Hobbit. A father tells a story about each tattoo which combine to present a family history.  Told as a conversation between father and son, this gently illustrated story is very contemporary but with an old-fashioned warmth.

Attempts by village children to snitch a tasty fruit were unsuccessful until Halloween night when a kind old lady replaced the witch. This fast-paced story unfolds in rich, rhyming language accompanied by evocative illustrations.
