Christina Cipriano, PhD: The Evolution of Social Emotional Learning in Schools

In the last decade or so, almost all states have adopted some SEL standards in their schools, at least at the primary level. Originally called character education, moral education, or positive youth development, SEL has become more formalized with time, experience, and research but there is more work to go to help schools adopt the programs and strategies that work best for them.

Applied Developmental and Educational Psychology

Dr. Cipriano is an Applied Developmental and Educational Psychologist, and Director of the Education Collaboratory at Yale. Her research focuses on the role of social and emotional learning (SEL) in the promotion of pathways to optimal developmental outcomes for traditionally marginalized student and teacher populations.
