Christina Cipriano, PhD: Emotions Underscore Our Ability to Learn and Thrive

SEL is not another subject or activity on the “to do” plate, it is the plate itself. SEL is the foundation for positive development in children and adults. We must start with emotions in order for students to be available to learn and, similarly, for teachers to be available to teach them.

Applied Developmental and Educational Psychology

Dr. Cipriano is an Applied Developmental and Educational Psychologist, and Director of the Education Collaboratory at Yale. Her research focuses on the role of social and emotional learning (SEL) in the promotion of pathways to optimal developmental outcomes for traditionally marginalized student and teacher populations.
