Christina Cipriano, PhD: To Educate the Whole Child and All Children, We Need to Start with SEL

Educators talk about the importance of whole-child development, but need to make sure to include all students, in particular those that fall in the margins. If students don’t feel safe and validated in the classroom, if they don’t see themselves represented in ways in which emotions and other domains are being taught, they’re not going to learn and thrive.

Applied Developmental and Educational Psychology

Dr. Cipriano is an Applied Developmental and Educational Psychologist, and Director of the Education Collaboratory at Yale. Her research focuses on the role of social and emotional learning (SEL) in the promotion of pathways to optimal developmental outcomes for traditionally marginalized student and teacher populations.
