Christina Cipriano, PhD: What Is Social Emotional Learning, or SEL?

Although it has a rich background in emotional intelligence and prevention science, SEL is a relatively new term, formalized by Casel in 1994 with the five core competencies like problem-solving and responsible decision making.

Christina Cipriano

Applied Developmental and Educational Psychology

Dr. Cipriano is an Applied Developmental and Educational Psychologist, and Director of the Education Collaboratory at Yale. Her research focuses on the role of social and emotional learning (SEL) in the promotion of pathways to optimal developmental outcomes for traditionally marginalized student and teacher populations.
