What every teacher should know
Reading 101: A Guide to Teaching Reading and Writing
For a deeper understanding of what works in writing instruction, read the practice guide from the U.S. Department of Education and watch our webcast, Teaching Writing.
The practice guide Teaching Elementary School Students to Be Effective Writers provides four recommendations for improving elementary students' writing. Each recommendation includes implementation steps and solutions for common roadblocks. The recommendations also summarize and rate supporting evidence.
This guide is geared toward teachers, literacy coaches, and other educators who want to improve the writing of their elementary students. (Developed by writing expert Steve Graham for the What Works Clearinghouse, U.S. Department of Education.)
Watch our webcast Teaching Writing, featuring national experts Steve Graham, Louisa Moats, and Susan Neuman. They address why writing is important, what the latest research tells us, and what educators and parents can do to support our children's development as writers. Discussion questions are included with the webcast.
