Reading Is the Basis for All Other Learning

The Greeley Tribune (CO)
I have worked in public education in many capacities for 40 years. Through all my experience and learning, I have concluded that the most important thing we can do as an educational system is to teach children to read. Reading is the basis for all other learning. Without good reading skills, students can't succeed in any other subject area. They can't learn history. They can't comprehend math problems. They can’t write. They can't conduct a scientific experiment.
