Cleveland sets dates, locations for its summer reading school to meet the Third Grade Reading Guarantee

Cleveland Plain Dealer
Cleveland’s "mandatory" summer reading program for third graders struggling to meet the state’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee will start June 4 and last six weeks. The Elementary Summer Reading Academy will have morning classes five days a week to try to improve reading skills of about 1,000 third graders in danger of being held back. That's about 40 percent of the district's third graders. Based on state reading tests given in the fall, Cleveland has close to the highest percentage of students needing serious reading help in Ohio.
