Fighting Poverty One Book at a Time

Duncan McDougall, a lanky figure who, with his beard and mustache, could have been the Santa Claus of Gilman on this day, is at the center of the crush of the students. McDougall is founder and director of the Children's Literacy Foundation, or CLiF (clifonline.org), based in Waterbury Center. McDougall visited Gilman Tuesday on a mission: to inspire young people in poor, rural communities of Vermont and New Hampshire to read and write.
