Bedtime Stories, From a Dad in Afghanistan

National Public Radio

The heartwarming story of a family physically separated by war, and emotionally put back together by bedtime stories. Karri Bielwicz worried for her husband's safety, the stability of her marriage, and the inability for her husband, Ken, and daughter, Abigail — with whom she was five months pregnant at the time of Ken's departure — to bond during Abigail's first few months. By reading five books a week to a camera, Ken ensures that he won't be a stranger to his own daughter when he returns in February; she already recognizes his voice and his facial features simply by listening to his bedtime stories.
