Looking at Writing

Looking at writing — lots of it — is one of the best ways to hone your observational and instructional skills. Exchanging ideas with other teachers is also incredibly valuable.

• The author understands that writing is used to communicate a message.
• Spacing shows concept of word.

What does this child need to learn next?
• Lessons on using punctuation – capital letters and periods.
• Lesson on letter writing format
• Sight words

Classroom strategies:
• Could use a word wall to help with basic sight words like 'have' and 'our.' (http://forpd.ucf.edu/strategies/stratwordwalls.html)
• Keep up the pen pals! Seems like a motivating way to get kids to write.
