Summer Reading Booklists

Our annual summer booklists make it easy to find great books that kids will want to dive into during the long, lazy days of summer.

Encouraging children to read while school is out will help prevent the “summer slide” and build background knowledge to support reading comprehension. Our booklists can be a springboard for helping your kids choose books on topics that pique their curiosity — that’s what really motivates children to want to read. When kids have engaging books at the ready, they won’t ever be bored!

Our summer reading booklists are created by our children’s literature expert, Maria Salvadore, who also writes our Page by Page blog. We make a special effort to highlight high-quality fiction and nonfiction, newly published books, diverse books, and exceptional audio books. Also included are great books for sharing, talking over, and thinking about with an adult.

Visit our sister site, Start with a Book, to discover lots more great fiction and nonfiction books — matched with topics kids love (like dinosaurs, bugs, flight, superheroes, poetry, and the night sky).

There’s nothing like curling up with a good book on a hot summer day. The pages seem to turn themselves, and the story transports you to another world.
