Biography

Cece Bell an author/illustrator of children’s books including the Rabbit and Robot stories, the Sock Monkey series, Itty Bitty, and the graphic novel memoir, El Deafo, which won a Newbery Honor and the Geisel Award in 2015.

Bell grew up in Salem, Viriginia and drank a lot of limeades at the Brooks-Byrd Pharmacy downtown. She met her husband, fellow children’s book writer (and sometimes collaborator) Tom Angleberger, at the College of William and Mary, where they were both art majors. Bell went on to get a graduate degree in illustration and design at Kent State University.

Bell has worked as a freelance illustrator for all kinds of nutty projects, but is now a full-time author and illustrator. She lives in an old church in Virginia and works in a two-story barn right next door. Bell enjoys moments of hilarity with her husband, along with three lady dogs and two youngsters.
