The Thirteenth Labor
Cedar Rapids, IA
Hercules enthusiastically walked into King Eurystheus' palace after successfully completing the twelve missions. He strolled to the King's throne, and the look on Eurystheus' face was astounding.
"How are you still alive?" Eurystheus exclaimed. "I must assign you another "impossible" mission. What shall it be?" the King brainstormed. "I command you to go home while I think!"
Hercules strode out of the palace hoping he would never see the horrid man again. He entered his condo, sat on his black leather couch, and switched on the television.
"Yippee! It's Mickey Mouse, my favorite show!" Hercules cheered. His stomach growled so loud it shook his home. "I must make supper. If I don't, there might be an earthquake." He paced into his kitchen and searched the cupboards for his favorite meal, Spaghetti O's. With his stomach full, Hercules plopped down on the couch and continued to watch Mickey on the television. He dozed off, just as the telephone rang.
"I have got your thirteenth labor!!!" Eurystheus said excitedly. "There's this kingdom in America, with a beauteous castle, and its ruler is a big-eared mouse. I need you to kidnap Big Ears because I want to rule this kingdom! It must be completed within the next seventeen hours. For some help, one of your friends can come along." Eurystheus hung up.
"Hmmmm " Hercules thought, staring at the television. "Big Ears? Well, that absolutely must be Mickey Mouse! Oh, Eurystheus' thoughts were wrong! This "labor" will be easier than the other twelve!" "But how will I cross the Atlantic? Medusa, no, Artemis, no, wait, Pegasus can fly, and he lives next door! I'll go get him immediately!"
They began their mission. After ten hours, they arrived at the castle. Hercules found Mickey's room and knocked on the door. Mickey swung open the door, and Hercules announced, "You have been chosen to star in a new television show in Disney Euro! Come with me to begin your new life!" Hercules led Mickey to Pegasus. "Hop on!" Hercules shouted. "I hope Eurystheus is happy," Hercules deliberated as they soared back to Greece.
