Blogs About Reading
Sound It Out
Along with her background as a researcher, writer, and teacher, Joanne Meier is a mom. Join Joanne every week as she shares her experiences raising her own young readers, and guides parents and teachers on the best practices in reading.
Blogroll fun
Have you seen the new Reading Rockets blogroll? It lists just a few of the zillions of blogs out there related to teaching, education, and reading. Here are just a few of the highlights:
Bridging Differences is an interesting blog on which Deborah Meier (no relation) and Diane Ravitch swap opinions and openly disagree about lots of education topics. Have you read Deborah Meier's book The Power of Their Ideas? People interested in school reform will like her style.
I've been reading I Speak of Dreams for a long time now. The author, Liz Ditz, is remarkably passionate and never fails to get to the bottom line. She knows a lot about effective instruction and kids with LD. This link will take you directly to her subsection of posts that concern LD (she's passionate about many topics).
My friend, mentor, colleague, and dissertation chair (10 years ago!) writes Teach Effectively. If you're looking for solid opinion about evidence-based instruction and educational practice, look no further. His blogroll will also take you to some interesting places!
Last, I've written about Media Infusion before. It's from PBS, and each month a guest expert writes about technology and education, from lots of different perspectives.
This month's expert writes about teachers, Web 2.0, and creating teachers and students for the 21st century. The first post this month is long, but has TONS of great resources within it.
So, have some fun lurking and commenting on these blogs and the countless others you'll find yourself clicking to. And don't forget to check back here!
Joanne-- Great post! Just what I have been looking for-- I have discovered some amazing artist blogs but have yet to find many decent educational blogs. You have pointed me in the right direction!
Hope you are well--Isabel

Hiya, Joanne! Thanks for throwing a link to Teach Effectively!. Thanks, too, for the heads-up about the Meier-Ravitch conversation.
